| ●開拓のはじめ |
|
白糠町は足寄、網走へ向かう交通の要路として古くから知られていた。開墾の初めは北海道最初の屯田兵村を造った八王子千人同心隊である。その後、農業を目的に移住したのは明治17年に戸長役場が設置されてからで、15ｍほどもある柳が林をなしている密林にオノ１丁で向かっていったという開拓の厳しさを町史は伝えている。

Shiranuka has long been known as an important traffic junction to Ashoro and Abashiri. The area was first reclaimed by the Hachioji Constable Corps, which built Hokkaido's first soldier-farmers' village. People began to move to Shiranuka for farming after the headman's office was established in 1884. Town history tells how hard development was: People fought against a thick forest of 15-m-high willows with only axes in hand.

|
「平礎のほとり」というアイヌ語が「白糠」になったと伝えられる。寛永20年（1643年）オランダ船カストリクム号の船長日誌に「シラルカ」と記されているのが最古の記録である。

| ●Origin of the Town Name |
|
It is said that the Ainu word meaning "on the flat shore" has become "Shiranuka." The oldest record of the name is in the captain's logbook of the Dutch ship "Castricum" in 1643, which reads "Shiraruka."

| ●秋鮭定置網漁 |
|
９月になると白糠の浜は一段と活気づく。秋鮭定置網漁がはじまるのだ。11月までに水揚げされる鮭は例年2千トン、あぶらがのっておいしいと定評がある。

In September, Shiranuka Beach gets busier, bacause fixed-net fishing for autumn salmon begins. Salmon landed by November are recognized as deliciously rich in oil.

白糠町の海岸では”サケの一本釣り”が楽しめる。

 しらぬかパークゴルフインチャロ |
|
白糠市街から車で5分。国際パークゴルフ協会認定の全長1,711m、36ホールのコースは起伏の激しい道内屈指の難コースとして有名です。平成14年6月のオープンから各種大会が開催され、町内外のパークゴルフ愛好者に親しまれています。

It is five minutes by car from Shiranuka city. Full length 1,711m of association of international park golf authorization, a course of 36 halls are famous as an outstanding difficulty course in an intense road of ups and downs. Various meetings are started at opening of June, 2002, and it is got close to an outside park golf lover in the town block.

| 白糠市街から車で20分。学校校舎を再利用しているため、グランド、体育館、シャワー室、教室、東屋などの施設が自由に利用できます。施設周辺には水遊びのできる川が流れており、釣なども楽しむことができます。 |

20 minutes by car from Shiranuka city. You can use a ground, a gymnasium, a shower room, a classroom, an institution such as a small arbor freely to reycle a school building. Around an institution, a made river of playing with water flows and can enjoy fishing.

| ●駒おどり |
|
青森県に享保年間から伝承されてきた駒踊りは、大正時代の末期に白糠に伝えられたといわれている。白糠において新しい味つけを加え、牧歌調の中にも勇壮な駒踊りは、白糠町の誇る郷土芸能として全国に知られている。

| ●Komaodori Dance |
|
Horse dancing, which has been handed down in Aomori since the Kyoho era, is said to have been introduced to Shiranuka at the end of the Taisho era. The pastoral but heroic dance is the pride of the town, adding new charm. The folk entertainment has achieved national fame.

| ●海中みこし |
|
北海道の夏は短い。冷たい海の中へ勇猛果敢に御輿を繰り出すのは白糠の男の心意気か。毎年7月下旬の厳島神社例大祭の最終日に海中みこしは行われる。

| ●Underwater Portable Shrine |
|
Hokkaido's summer is short. Is it the spirit of Shiranuka's men to bravely carry the shrine into the cold sea? This ceremony takes place on the last day of the Itsukushima Shrine Festival in late July.

●サケの川釣り調査
河川にそ上するサケ・マス資源の有効利用と茶路川の遊漁利用の可能性を探ろうと、平成9年からサケ釣り調査が始まりました。
期間は8月から10月までで、調査開始前に申し込みをいただき許可を受けた方が参加できます。

●Reserch on River Fishing for Salmon
To promote the efficient use of salmon migrating up river, as well as to conduct a feasible study of recreational salmon fishing on the Charo river, research on fishing on the river began in 1997. Those who have applied in advance and obtained approval for research fishing, starting in August and ending in October, can participate.
